About Memories Import

Memories Import is a mobile app that saves your Snapchat memories to your phone's camera roll -- with original dates, times, and locations preserved. It is available on iOS and Android, processes everything on your device, and requires no account or subscription.

Snapchat stores your memories in its own cloud. While convenient, this creates real risks for your personal photos and videos:

• Account vulnerability: If your Snapchat account is compromised, locked, or deleted, your memories disappear with it
• Platform lock-in: Memories stored in Snapchat can only be viewed and accessed through the Snapchat app
• Lost metadata: When you manually save a Snapchat memory, it loses its original date and shows up as "today" in your camera roll, destroying the chronological timeline of your photos

How It Works

The technical process behind Memories Import is designed for reliability, speed, and privacy:

1. You request your data from Snapchat. Snapchat provides an official data export through accounts.snapchat.com. This export contains a JSON file with download links to all your memories, along with metadata including original capture dates and GPS coordinates.
2. Memories Import parses the export. The app reads your Snapchat export file and identifies every photo and video, along with its associated metadata. This parsing happens entirely on your device.
3. EXIF metadata processing. For each photo and video, the app embeds the original capture date, time, and GPS coordinates directly into the file's EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) metadata. This is the standard metadata format used by every phone, camera, and photo application. All EXIF processing is performed offline on your device.
4. Camera roll import. The processed files are saved to your phone's camera roll using the native photo library APIs (PhotoKit on iOS, MediaStore on Android). Because the EXIF dates are properly embedded, each memory appears in the correct chronological position alongside your other photos.

The entire process runs on your device. Your photos are never uploaded to any server, never processed in the cloud, and never accessed by anyone other than you.

Who Built This

Memories Import is built by Fortivus, a mobile development studio focused on privacy-first utility tools. We build apps that solve real problems without compromising user privacy.

We started building Memories Import after hearing from users who were frustrated with losing access to their Snapchat memories. The available solutions at the time either didn't preserve metadata, required uploading photos to third-party servers, or simply didn't work reliably with large exports. We built the tool we wished existed: fast, private, and thorough.
